Your grown application becomes maintainable again. And your team carries on without me.

For over 30 years I have been building and modernising data-driven applications in the Microsoft environment — Excel and Access, SQL and Power Query, SharePoint and PowerShell.

What I am working on

Since 02/2024 Public-sector IT service provider, critical infrastructure. PowerShell automation for around 17,000 workstations. Ten previously manual procedures now run as configurable standard processes; administrative effort fell by around 90 per cent.
Since 11/2023 Vendor of software for tour operators. Modularisation of an ERP front end with more than 100 users, analysed with AI support. New reports are produced considerably faster.
Ongoing E-invoicing in existing applications. An XRechnung tool for Access is in use, an ERP tool with integrated e-invoicing is in development.

What I do

Many companies run their daily business on applications that have grown over twenty years. They work, but they can barely be changed, and the knowledge about them sits with a handful of people.

That is where I start: assess what exists, introduce structure, modernise step by step. What remains is an application your own organisation can run and adapt.

Modernisation of existing applications

Code review, refactoring and modularisation of grown VBA, Excel, Access and PowerShell applications, together with documentation the team can rely on.

Software architecture

Structures built to last rather than quick one-off solutions: clear layers, separation of data and evaluation, configurable processes. This is what allows an application to be run without a developer.

Reporting and data warehousing

From the single evaluation through to automated loading into PostgreSQL or MS SQL, including stored procedures, views and safeguarding of data quality.

E-invoicing in legacy applications

Implementation of the German e-invoicing obligation inside existing applications, independently of whether the original vendor follows suit.

How I work

I work to clean-code principles, safeguard applications through test automation and produce binding coding guidelines. In current engagements I use Claude and GitHub Copilot to analyse large, historically grown code bases.

Fifteen years in general management also taught me what a report is ultimately needed for. So we talk about which indicators matter just as much as about the technology.

My aim is that you carry on without me. After the engagement your organisation works with the solution itself, adapts it through configuration and develops it further where needed.
